| The Scouts of Troop 42 are girls in
grades K-5 who were adopted from China and other Asian countries. The
troop is based in Indianapolis but welcomes girls from surrounding
communities. We usually meet once per month year-round, typically on
the third Sunday. Our kick off meeting in August at Camp Dellwood was
a smashing success and our participation at the city wide Chinese Festival
in September was rewarding, exciting and fun. We may even get some
pictures up on this web site soon.
Our October meeting are will be a semi informal
meeting at the pumpkin patch, November will find us making gingerbread
houses and in December we will be watching the splendor that is Disney
on Ice! After the new year, alot of plans are in the hopper - kite
making, a camp out and a visit to the State Museum to learn about the
Girl Guides of Hong Kong with a special tour of the exhibit just for
Troop 42. Always check the
FCC-IN Event calendar
for the latest update
in Troop 42 meetings. They will be highlighted in green. Sometimes
meetings can be more informal and low key - we meet at locations in
Indy and surrounding communities, depending upon the activity, break
into small groups, and have parent/experts share their knowledge of
particular subjects.
You may be asking; "How is Troop 42 different from my daughter’s school troop?" Here is the answer:
Troop 42 is a great way for your daughter to maintain her cultural ties and to develop friendships with other girls adopted from China. Our mission is to educate troop members about Asian cultures through traditional Girl Scout activities and programs. The girls have learned about Asian festivals, Panda conservation, and even visited Chinatown in Chicago. We include non-Asian activities in our programs also, like Theatre and Horseback Riding. Our troop encourages giving back to the community. We gave GS cookies to the Indy Children’s Guardian Home, sponsored a deaf orphan in China for a year, made a donation toward the snow emergency in China earlier this year, and collected money for the recent China earthquake victims.

This troop was the first of its kind ( thank you
Char Ottinger!) and has provided our girls with fun and invaluable
experiences. We hope to see you and your children for the 2008-2009
season. |
