Families With Children From China - Indiana

Why Support FCC-Indiana?

What Can FCC-IN Do For You?

Create Community:  FCC-IN works to build and create lasting relationships between children adopted from China, their families, and the local Chinese community.  As evidenced by studies of adult Korean adoptees, maintaining a connectedness to their cultural heritage and others who share their history is vital to the emotional well-being of transracial adoptees. FCC-IN children are a part of an extended family whose focus is to support one another through cultural exchanges, educational opportunities, and social gatherings that provide lifelong friendships and a greater understanding of the Chinese culture and adoption.  Through our connectedness with the Chinese community, FCC-IN children gain important exposure to their culture and to adults and mentors who can assist them on path to discovering who they are.  Through our connectedness with other adoptive families, we share our experiences about our adoption journey, support one another, and create lasting bonds for both parents and children.

Keep You Informed:  Each member of FCC-IN brings a unique perspective and life experience.  The benefit of this diversity is that members bring this knowledge to share so that every family can benefit.  Events, news, books, member activities, cultural information, interesting web links, etc. that we may not know of individually are shared amongst FCC-IN members via our website, Facebook Page, Yahoo group, newsletter, Twitter feed and in personal exchanges.

Provide Cultural Learning Opportunities:  FCC-IN works with the local Chinese community to create opportunities for our children to gain exposure to their heritage via cultural events, educational activities, and social gatherings.  We support the efforts of various Chinese organizations by co-sponsoring important Chinese festivals including the Chinese New Year Festival (January/February), Dragonboat Festival (June), and Chinese Festival (September).  Without your membership, we would not have the opportunity to support these wonderful events.  We are also working to create a mentorship program that will match FCC-IN member children with college-age Chinese students who can provide them with a deeper understanding of their culture and what it is like to grow up Chinese.  In addition, we have member-supported activities including a Girl Scout troop and book club, which meets to discuss a wide variety of books on adoption and Chinese culture.

Education:  FCC-IN creates educational workshops and sharing opportunities for families that provides insight into adoption, Chinese culture, race, interracial families and current events.  We place great importance on becoming a clearinghouse of education information that benefits our member families.

How Is My Membership Used?

FCC-IN is a fully volunteer-supported organization.  Every dollar that we receive goes into creating programming specifically geared toward supporting our membership and to donating to other organizations and causes devoted to China, Chinese culture and adoption.  FCC-IN membership is open to families in all stages of the adoption process who have or are planning to adopt children of Chinese heritage.  We also welcome membership from adult adoptees, the local Chinese community, friends and families of adoptees, and anyone who is interested in supporting our mission.

While our member volunteers donate their time and in-kind resources, we depend on our members to donate the operating revenue to keep the organization going.  Membership dues go to:
