Central Indiana Girl Scout Troops #42 and #43 are comprised of girls in
grades kindergarten through eight who are adopted from
China. Troop 42 was the first scout troop of its
kind in the United States. The troop started out as a small group of Brownies led by Chris Jacobsen and Char Ottinger. The trailblazing leaders started the troop as
a means to help girls maintain their cultural ties and develop friendships with
other girls adopted from China.
Since their initial meeting six years ago, the troop has grown to include over 80 girls, which span two Daisy, one Brownie, one Junior, and one Cadette troops. In order to accommodate this incredible growth, the group has split into two troops -- #42 and #43 and boasts over 10 volunteer leaders.
The mission of these troops is to educate its members
about Asian cultures through traditional Girl Scout activities and
programs. The girls have learned about Asian festivals, Panda
conservation, kites, tai chi, Beijing opera and more. Leaders also include non-Asian activities in their programs such as theater and horseback riding.
The troops encourage giving back to
the community. The Cadette/Junior troop is actively involved in securing Asian bone marrow donors. The troops have also made a donation toward the snow emergency in China
and collected money for the China earthquake victims.
Meetings are listed on the Events page of this website. Some meetings are held with all of the troops together, while others are held individually by troop level (Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette). Check the event listings for up-to-date monthly meeting information.

Membership Troop 42/43
Forms are available below, on the Girl Scout Troop 42 Yahoo group under "Files" and at the main Central Indiana Girl Scout Web site.
Auditor Troop 42/43
Girls
cannot JOIN two troops (i.e. Troop 42/43 and a school troop). They will need
to JOIN one (and pay the $12 national membership fee) and AUDIT
the other (do not have to pay the national fee). You can choose which troop you want
to JOIN and AUDIT the other. Troops 42/43 have a mixture of decisions.
Note: Scouts can only sell GS cookies for the troop they JOIN.
Adult Volunteers
All parents must fill out the adult volunteer form. This is mandatory for Troops #42 and #43 because our parents typically stay during meetings and events. Girl Scouts requires that any parent in attendance at a meeting MUST have the volunteer form completed and on file.
